The S House by Marston Architects centres on the refurbishment of a residence originally built over 20 years ago. While the existing building envelope and primary structure were retained, the internal program was completely reimagined. The layout was reversed to position the open-plan living areas on the upper floor, where they now take full advantage of spectacular harbour views and enjoy a stronger connection to the rear garden.
By opening up the interiors, the many walls that once supported the roof span were removed and replaced with discreet structural columns concealed within walls and joinery.
This allowed the distinctive roof form to be celebrated internally, appearing to ‘float’ overhead.
To emphasise this architectural gesture, the ceiling has been illuminated at both ends with View Opti Linear Trackspots, seamlessly integrated into recessed three-circuit track.
A warm, natural material palette carries through the home, creating an atmosphere of calm and refinement. The owners’ art collection is thoughtfully illuminated with Palco Low-Voltage Trackspots, ceiling-mounted in the corridors and rod-mounted along the wall in the upstairs open-plan living area.
