The result of innovative thinking and a collaborative, multi-disciplinary approach, Wadanggari Park is a highly complex project designed by Arcadia Landscape Architecture. Constructed over the North Shore railway line and adjacent to the Pacific Highway at St Leonards, the park demonstrates creative problem solving where available land is limited.
The three towers of the Wadanggari Park playground represent the stages of growth of the Wadanggari (Banksia) flower. The design incorporates multi-level play spaces with a pod climber, net tower and art structure, along with bridges, climbing nets, viewing decks, swings and slides, creating a playful and inclusive environment for all ages.
Lighting enhances the design narrative after dark, with Palco InOut floodlights discreetly illuminating the towers and bridge, while Light Up inground fittings highlight the textured façades. iGuzzini Underscore InOut defines the top of the central tower, and iWay bollards with 180º cut-off optics provide comfortable, glare-free lighting throughout the surrounding pathways.
A carefully considered lighting strategy ensures safety and accessibility from the highway frontage through to the heart of the park. Pole mounted Palco InOut floodlights direct light precisely onto pathways and key access points, maintaining darkness within the landscaped areas to protect the natural setting.
